Killing Mr. Griffin 4

Do you think Mark killed his father? Why or why not?

  1. Yes, I think that Mark killed his father because what I have read in Killing Mr. Griffin, Mark has a twisted mind because when he was younger he had already burned a cat alive and then he kidnaps his teacher and pulls people into it. He had also told Susan that his father had it coming because his father was going to turn him into the police. He never said that he had actually done it but I believe that he did.

  2. I suspected that Mark killed his father when he talked about how he died in a fire because of his history with burning the cat alive. He obviously doesn't feel much guilt and lies often, so it would be easy for him to say that his father was just asleep when the house caught on fire. He later mentions something about how "he was going to turn me in" when he was attempting to burn Susan's house and her with it, and I think he was having flashbacks of doing the same to his father.

  3. Considering he was going to turn Mark in, and taking into account the fact that Mark remorselessly set fire to a cat in elementary school, I'd say he definitely did.

  4. I believe he did due to his history of burning the cat as well as his lack of remorse over Mr. Griffin's death as well as because of his personality and the fact that he may be the cause of David's grandmother's death. The things he says and the way he says them when he sets fire to Susan's house is also cause to believe he killed his father.

  5. Definitely, Mark will do whatever it takes to cover his trails. When he was trying to burn Susan, it seemed like he was having a flashback to when he did it to his father. Plus, he seems to like setting fire to things..

  6. I personally think he didn't. I don't believe Mark was born the way he was by the end of the book. I believe the house fire that killed his dad is what triggered his behavior, making him a psychopath. At the time, he was mad at his dad for punishing him, and not appearing to care about what happened to him. I believe the house fire was an accident that happened a the perfect time for Mark to put two and two together and think "Hey, this is how I can get my way." I think the event is what sparked his psychopath mindset. I think, because he didn't like his dad and his dad died, he could get rid of the things he didn't like by killing them. After his dad died, he set the cat on fire because he didn't like cats. He didn't like Mr. Griffin, and he kidnapped him and ultimately killed him. I believe you have to think a little deeper when talking about Mark, because there's definitely a LOT going on in his head, and it's never good.

  7. yes ma'am i do, the things he said when he was trying to kill susan and burn down her house just seemed like he had maybe done that before.. and i mean he burnt a cat! and didn't even have remorse for Mr. Griffen, so there is a huge possibility that he indeed killed his own family.

  8. yes, i think that Mark killed his father. The way he spoke to Susan right before he thought would be her death, said things out of the ordinary; for example, he talked of how long it took to catch the curtains on fire and such. which led me to believe he did kill his father.

  9. In my opinion i think that mark killed his father because he was going to turn him him to the cops because he stole money from him and he would have had to of lived in a group home. I also think that he killed his father because it seems that he has an obsession for fire from the cat in the beginning to where he tried to kill susan and that his father died by fire i think that he did it.

  12. I don't think that Mark killed his father i believe that he was a good kid up until his father died and that's when he started not caring about others and animals and I think that's why he killed the cat and decided to kill Mr. Griffin cause it was away to get rid of his pain

  13. Yes i do believe Mark killed his father because as he was lighting the curtains in Susans house he said a phrase that was hinting that he wanted to do harm to his father because his father was going to turn him in. Just like in this instance Susan was wanting to go tell the police that Mr. Griffin died because of what they did and Mark didn't like it so his only way of keeping himself safe was to kill Susan. As like his father.
